Growth Disorders
Growth disorders are known as any situation in which the development and/or human growth is affected, preventing it from normally development. These growth disorders usually affect growth expectations of child or adolescent final size.
For ordinary people, it is difficult to realize when our children is growing normally or when an abnormality is presenting during development, therefore, some practical and easy signals to apply would be to compare them to their friends at school, for example, if our children are below average height (size) of his classroom, parents should consult a specialist to evaluate his son and take actions and treatments timely.
Specialists usually perform certain tests that confirm presumptive diagnoses, and then provide treatment alternatives. In most cases, these recommendations may include a reorganization of nutritional support on special diets, in other cases include food and/or nutritional supplements, and only in cases in which is necessary, therapeutic measures will be taken as the application of therapies with the Growth Hormone. Remember it should always be prescribed by a specialist and treatment should be supervised by it.
Another convenient way to keep track of our children growth is through monitoring of growth curves, these are international growth patterns endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and will guide you on how well your children are growing. The growth curves are freely available and easy to use, you can find it in the following link: http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/clinical_charts.htm#Set2 .
Finally, and as a way of primary information, growth disturbances can find several causes, such as genetic causes (family history), genetic syndromes, nutritional disorders, hormonal, stress and social pressure, etc. Remember, the most important in all these cases is to receive support and care of a health professional trained to address these situations, and as soon as we look for him, it will be better for our children.
